Lets get Bent

|

For me Aston Villa’s Darren Bent is the ideal signing this January as we need another striker (I wrote this before the Wellington Paulista links/loan deal).

Last season and for a few seasons before that we struggled for goals and bringing in Andy Carroll from Liverpool was meant to solve that issue – it hasn’t so far as he has only managed 1 goal in 10 matches.  And although Carlton Cole has started playing well again we all know that is not a born goal scorer (as proven by the miss against Norwich City) , but Bent is has a decent goals to game ratio despite have played mid/bottom-half table teams.

Bent is renowned for being strong, fast, having good feet, being decent in the air (despite being 5ft 11inch) and has always had a natural smell for goal.  But the main reason that I would love to bring Bent to Upton Park is that with him preferring the ball along the floor rather than in the air, it will force us to pass the ball about more instead of launching it to Cole, we will have to think of other ways of attacking.  It will make the midfield think a little bit more about what they are doing and give them a freedom to make their own decisions instead of doing what they feel they must do.  With the acquisition Joe Cole (Who I am praying will be utilised down the left as I feel Matthew Jarvis will have more of an impact down the right) comes more options as he has never been a player to just bang the ball into the box game after game, he mixes it up, cuts inside, shoots, and with this opens up a new opportunity for Bent who is renowned for being a fantastic poacher.

The signing of Bent would also put pressure onto Andy Carroll to hopefully score some more goals when he returns from injury, the only thing we have been lacking in this fantastic start to the season.

Never going to happen IMO. Transfer fee would be out of our budget and now that we’ve signed 2 strikers it’s definitely a no go. I agree that he’d be a good buy for us though.

he is not a big sam player he cant lead the line and hold ball up plus he would cost fortune aston villa would want as much of the fee as possible they payed back plus his wages. and imo he is lazy another thing sam wouldnt stand for

This is why it will never happen.

Paullista and JC will be played on the wing, Maiga will go, and Jarvis will rightly be benched

I’d like to see Carroll go, too
