Best squad for years?

|

I’m just gonna come out and say it…I think this current West Ham team is the best we’ve had since the days of Paolo Di Canio, Freddie Kanoute, Jermain Defoe, Michael Carrick etc.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

I look at our current squad and it’s literally littered with quality: Guy Demel is easily the best RB we’ve had since Glen Johnson made that position his own back in the 02/03 season. James Tomkins, Winston Reid and James Collins are a solid trio of CB’s who every once in a while pop up with a goal or two. LB of course is a bit of an issue but hopefully that conundrum is about to be solved in the shape of Martin Olsson and of course after his performance against Manchester United no-one could have a problem with young Dan Potts filling in.

Our midfield (with everyone fit) is an embarrassment of riches; the power and presence of the likes of Mohamed Diame and Alou Diarra (who we’re yet to see play together but one suspects when they finally do it’ll be akin to some of the great partnerships of this world…dare I even say Lennon and McCartney?) the grit and determination of our academy boys in the shape of Jack Collison and Mark Noble. The goals of Kevin Nolan, the guile, creativity and vision of our returning son in Joey Cole and the pace and delivery of our record signing in Matt Jarvis; even though he’s yet to justify his hefty price tag his delivery does worry opposition defences. To put is simply our midfield has a little bit of everything.

Our forward line is perhaps where we can still look nostalgically back to around a decade ago…not quite sure Marouane Chamakh, Carlton Cole, Wellington Paulista and Andy Carroll are in the same class as Di Canio, Defoe and Kanoute. Nonetheless with only one spot to fight for in the starting XI it’s fair to say whoever gets the nod will have to earn it and will have to face a real fight to keep it. All of our current crop of strikers  have something in common…they all have something to prove; they’ve been written off in some quarters and are hungry to prove they’re not as useless as this country’s media would have you believe.

This season this squad is capable of a top 10 finish, if we can keep hold of the current crop and add to it in certain areas…the established top 6/7 might just be looking over their collective shoulder in years to come.

C’mon children grow up. As a west ham fan i very proud of our boyz and in the highly unlikely event of us going down I still be supporting them.
I often disagree with my fellow hammer fans on many issues including my appreciation for big sam and intense hatred for Paulo di Fascista. My mate who supports Chelsea and loathes West Ham bought me a WHUFC mug for xmas-if that aint peace and love then what is.
