Carlton Cole is a man who has constantly split the opinion of the West Ham faithful, there are some who think of his amazing displays such as the recent game against Chelsea where he lead the Hammers to an emphatic win which had been a decade in the waiting, while others think of the mediocre performances which he has put in down the years in both the Premier League and the Championship. So is Carlton Cole a hero or zero, is he a world beater or a man who should be warming our bench?

Before Saturday 1st December Carlton was a forgotten man; £35 million striker and England international Andy Carroll had been brought in on loan and was taking all of the plaudits, the way that he brought his team mates into play and caused havoc in the opposition’s defence left Carlton’s job to be the bench warmer and to make ten or twenty minute cameo appearances as the game was running down to give Andy a rest. This maybe changing though with Cole putting in such a great performance he could become the main man once again, however Carlton has done this before yet he still finds himself out of the spotlight nowadays, so will it last?
He is definitely a man who is not afraid of being put under pressure and seems to revel in it with game winning performances in the play-off final against Blackpool and scoring in our 4-0 win over Manchester United a couple of years ago but there have been countless times like late night games against the likes of Doncaster Rovers and Bristol City where I have been shouting from the terraces begging him to step up his game and then sometimes like against Tottenham Hotspur (when he scored a screamer and then set up Jermain Defoe) he can be both the hero of the day and then the villain.

The man has played for England against the likes of Holland so he can’t be too bad and I can’t help but feel that the Chelsea game may be the game that sets him up to be the great striker that he has the potential to be and that with all this talk of signing a new striker we may not need one. For both his sake and ours I hope that I am right and that he can put in such a great level of performance every week rather than just against the big teams.

Ill get the ball rolling.. He is 2 inconsistent and we need 2 get somebody in 2 replace him during winter transfer and quick! He will not keep this form up all season in premiership..
I believe Cole has excelled thanks 2 Carroll being injured, and having 2 prove his worth for position, he has done that, and when Carroll is no longer injured, they can just rotate them, Cole being in my personal belief the choice in majurity of games, don’t waste money on attack, bolster that defence!

I don’t believe Carlton cole can lead the line for us as he has had so many chances in the past and not made the most of them saying that I do feel he is a loyal member of the team who can play a part over the course of a season but we need a quality striker to lead the line with Carlton cole as back up
Thanks Charlotte and that’s a fair statement John, I feel that he could step up to the plate and maybe lead the line if he plays like he did against Chelsea and Liverpool consistently but if he goes back to his old ways then I definitely think that we could do with bringing in a striker in the January transfer widow
