How long can we keep hold of Diame?

|

Last Saturday lunch time as we beat the superstars of Chelsea for the first time in almost a decade; one man’s name has been on the lips of a watching footballing world…Diame.

Mohamed Diame almost single-handedly destroyed the champions of Europe with 45 minutes of pace, power and a clinical finish, he even harried Ashley Cole into the mistake that allowed Maiga to well and truly put the icing on a big fat derby winning cake.

The January transfer window is literally looming on the horizon and there are all sorts of rumours floating around surrounding our best player…interest from the Merseyside clubs, whispers of a release clause etc.

I think two things are very clear…one the David’s need to put a new long term deal for Mo at the top of their agenda; he only signed a 3 year deal in the summer and even if we managed to survive the baying wolves this January desperate for his services, two years left on his current deal would insure another round of intense speculation during the next window.

The other truth of which I speak is that in Diame we simply have a player that would walk into any team in the league, his capture was a major coup for the club and one does wonder how long we’ll be able to keep hold of such a prodigious talent?

The list of cream that have departed our shores in recent years is truly shocking: Ba, Parker and Bellamy for example and of course there are countless others before.

The omens in any case don’t look good on a long and distinguished Upton Park career for Mohamed Diame.

I’ll finish this piece with this pertinent question…those of you that are opposed to the move to the Olympic Stadium; do you think with the added revenue and prestige that would inevitably come with moving to such a venue would enhance or hinder our chances of keeping hold of the Diame’s of this world?

If he wants to go, fuck him. He is six months into a three year contract. The fact he has a release clause (if true), proves he is only using us as a stepping stone

To me the main question to be asked is, why do we continually hear about these release clauses in West Ham contracts. Not so long ago it was whether Andy Carroll could be pulled back to Liverpool in January, prior to our last relegation, it was who had the clause to leave us should we go down. Is it just me or do our legal team need to be tightening up these contracts, so that we don’t go through this speculation with any player that shows a spark of prospect?

I see that Diame is really enjoying his football at the moment. why would he leave us mid-season and risk upsetting his form? … I can’t see it.
Regardless of the offers that come in in January. The offers will still be there in the summer.
I think (and hope) West Ham will then convince him of their ambitions by adding further quality to the squad.
    Great signing!!
