Two little ducks

|

This weekend, West Ham United visit a shaky Spurs side at White Hart Lane. This could be the perfect time for the club to break two big ‘ducks’ that shadow the side heavily. West Ham United, haven’t won at White Hart Lane in the Premier League since 1999.

This weekend will be a perfect opportunity to break that duck as Tottenham have struggled in the league of late and being held to a point on a turbulent visit to Rome, will add to Spurs’ frustrations. Having led Manchester City but failing to win the points at the Etihad on the 11th and then faced a drubbing at their closest and fiercest rivals Arsenal where they were beaten 5-2. Their last home fixture with Wigan Athletic was a defeat as well so the form they have at home is worrying all the same as away from home.

I feel that we may not get a better chance to beat Spurs than when we meet this Sunday. Tottenham are struggling for form and their confidence under their new manager seems to be dwindling. This should not be seen as overconfidence, Spurs without doubt have some players of very high quality and some of their players will pose many threats. Especially their in form striker and former Hammer, Jermain Defoe who will give the solid West Ham defense some questions and challenges to deal with. Also the threat of the pacey winger, Gareth Bale could cause problems to our full backs.

Despite their strengths, the form of the side is questionable and having conceded 5 times at the weekend, it could be a chance for another duck to be broken in the West Ham side, a duck that has been present since the 1st September, and Andy Carroll’s goal scoring form is starting to become a slight concern. I doubt that many West Ham fans are worrying intensely about this problem because we haven’t much reason to complain at this present time. 7th in the league and we are keeping clean sheets, if not clean sheets, only letting in one goal. We can take satisfaction that only twice in 12 games have we conceded 3 goals or more.

Although, I think I can say for every West Ham supporter that we will be hoping that our Geordie lad can break his duck. He has been waiting and attempting to break this for a while, and he has seen many efforts on goal either saved or just flash wide. If we win the game without a Carroll goal, no-one will complain, but if Carroll could score, it could kick start a very productive start to his West Ham career. Which could help to break the main duck that we hope to achieve on Sunday by beating Spurs at the Lane and ending our 13 year run of winless games at White hart Lane.
