Wigan Preview

|

Wigan Athletic go into this weekend’s clash v West Ham having won only 1 Premier League game all season away to Southampton.  Having taken just 2 points at home to date this fixture will have been identified as a must win for Roberto Martinez to try and avoid this season falling into a similar pattern as the previous 2.

West Ham on the other hand have made a tremendous start and a win against Wigan will see West Ham have 17 points from the first 9 games, an achievement never done by any previous West Ham manager in the Premier League.

With the 3 sides above them playing on Sunday West Ham may also climb to the lofty heights of 4th, would anyone dare shout Champions League? This time last season were Spurs fans shouting title? Ha

Team News

Joey O’Brien, Matt Taylor and Guy Demel have all trained this week with Joey O’Brien likely to make the match day Squad,  Jack Collison, Alou Diarra and Ricardo Vaz Tez remain on the sidelines.

Wigan have an injury doubt over Ryo Miyaichi who has an injured groin, Albert Crusat and Antolin Alcaraz are both missing.

It is ironic that Wigan’s last win came again West Ham in the League Cup but I imagine Wigan will face a much different and more organised West Ham.

I would imagine that the team will be the same as the one that defeated Southampton 4-1, with the only possible changes being at Full Back or Mobido Maiga making the starting birth after his brilliant solo goal.

The last time the 2 sides met in the Premiership both sides earned a home win by scoring 3:

15 May 2011- Wigan Athletic 3-2 West Ham United

27 November 2010 – West Ham United 3-1 Wigan Athletic

I think West Ham are no longer a soft touch and as proved last season away from home they are different to beat, I can see this being a tight match but one West Ham will Win 0-1.  I am always one for putting my money where my mouth is and a £2 bet returns £20.
