The future is bright

Most West Ham fans, and anyone that has any association with the club would say one of the best parts of the club is the academy. You cannot argue with the statement that we are the Academy of Football, and to back this up you only need to read off a few of the many names that have graced Upton Park, who have gone on to make a huge claim in world football. Probably the most famed of all of our graduates is the late, but no less great Bobby Moore. The only Englishman to lift the World Cup. Though, can any of the current crop go on to greatness?

The first player I’d like to look at is Robert Hall. Rob is a young English striker who quite clearly has the potential to take the world by storm in just a matter of years, he’s quick, skillful and has an excellent eye for goal and is one of West Ham’s most promising graduates. The West Ham website calls Rob, long been considered one of West Ham’s and England brightest attacking prospects. Rob has been with the club since he was only 7 years old and he hasn’t looked back. Recently making his Barclays Premier League debut as a substitute in the win over Fulham at just the age of 18. Though it is his record with Oxford United that has excited most West Ham fans, on a loan spell with the club he scored 5 times in just 11 appearances. This youngster hasn’t just impressed down the leagues but on the international scene as well as he has played England at all age groups up to the Under-19’s. Also he was part of a side that won the under-17 European Championships and took England under-19’s to the semi finals in 2012.

Another young and exciting prospect that is on his way to break into the team is Dylan Tombides. Dylan is young Australian national footballer who has represented the socceroos at under-17 level. Although, last season Dylan was diagnosed with cancer and this meant that he missed a pivotal year in his career to try and establish himself as West Ham player, though now he is on the straight path and made his recovery almost complete when he made his West Ham debut against Wigan Athletic in the Capital One Cup.

England Under-19 star Blair Turgott is another one of West Ham’s most promising stars. He has played for England at every level up to the under-19’s along with Hall and he is progressing nicely within the ranks at West Ham United. He has played 5 times for the under 21 side and the pacey winger has the ability to become a much anticipated youth prospect who could step up to the first team within a few years.

Two players who now have younsters at the club are Steve Potts and John Moncur, who have sons Daniel and George at the club. Daniel Potts has already made a step up into the first team and played for the club a few time last year and has become a regular substitute. The other young prospect George has a glittering future ahead of him. The young midfielder has spent loan spells out at AFC Wimbledon and he is another talented youth player who could step up in a matter of years.
