His name is Rio and he’s heading to West Ham?

|

With James Collins and Yossi Benayoun retuning to the Boleyn Ground it was only a matter of time until other past fan favourites were linked with moves back to West Ham United. This week’s piece of transfer gossip has been that we have been linked with a move for Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

The press has reported that “The 33-year-old started his career at Upton Park and the Hammers could make an ambitious move for the experienced defender.”

It has been well documented that the England international defender is out of contract in the summer and could leave Old Trafford on a free transfer.

However following Ferdinand’s response to the Kick It Out t-shirt attire and Ferguson’s subsequent reaction there are rumours abound of the centre back’s departure from Old Trafford might be sooner rather than later.

Looking for experience? Just want to be heard outside of the Boleyn? We are currently looking for writers, drop us an email at foreverwestham@snack-media.com for more details

Nonetheless given Manchester United’s defensive display midweek and Vidic’s injury woes this rumour definitely is grounded in the fiction section of the footballing library. Add to this Rio’s likely salary and age I doubt it would be a viable solution for Sam Allardyce or West Ham, at least that’s what my head says. My heart says I’d love to see a Rio in the claret and blue running the ball out of defence with aplomb one more time.

But you do you think? Do you think his wages would be too high? Would he usurp Collins at the back? Would you like to see Rio back at the Boleyn merking players again? Let us know.

Ever dreamt about getting paid for reading about West Ham? Well now you can make dreams a reality http://bit.ly/ffc-foreverwestham-lp

    Why would we want him????
It seems that we develop our young players, Carrick, Lampard, Ferdinand, Cole, Defoe etc.sell them and then want to get them back when they are past their best. Something doesn’t make sense.
The club should be looking forward not backwards!!!!!

Read this morning that Sam Allardyce would keen to have him back! Might offer something and help nurture Reid and Tomkins I suppose.

was a great player but now past it, cannot stay fit for season. why waste that type of money on his wages, better to go for a player like dawson at spuds or caldwell wigan, this type of player can lead from the back.

If he comes to us on a free, for £35,000 a week maximum then hes worth it. Anything more is just a waste of money!

I would love to hear Rio chanted around the terraces again but there are better CH’s out there we could spend our money on.

Strange comments on Rio coming out. He’s a great great player, and has played at the top for many years! (just ask anyone around Europe what they think of him). British public perception has turned against Rio recently, but that doesn’t mean to say it’s right (in fact, often i find it’s hyper sensitive and reactive). Has he lost his ability? No. Has he lost his strength? No. Has he got bucket loads of experience? Yes. Is he a leader? Yes. … Does his age or his approaching age render him uncompetitive for a top 6 team? No. … Anyone who has followed AC Milan’s success over recent years will know that they appreciate experienced players more than most AND have been very sucessful with such a strategy. Maldini, Inzaghi, Seedorf, Pirlo. .. Look at Scholes, Giggs, Friedel. … What about Billy Bonds?!! … i tell you, if we get Rio back from next year and his heart is in it ( i predict it will be rejuvenating for him)… we should count our lucky stars. It would take us to the next level. He would enter the rotation of CBs and be in the team based on performance and fitness, like the rest. But he’d be a great character to have in the dressing room and great for the younger lads and their development. And when he comes on… he’ll be doing it like he always has.
    BS has called it right.
