What a window!

|

I think it’s safe to say we’ve just witnessed the finest transfer window in the history of West Ham United.

The capture of Yossi Benayoun late last night, in my humble opinion was the last piece of the jig-saw put together by a man who oddly still splits opinion amongst the fans in Sam Allardyce.

We now have in Andy Carroll a striker capable of getting 15 plus Premier League goals and no matter how much any of us love Carlton Cole; he simply doesn’t possess the quality nor goal threat to do that.

In Matt Jarvis we now have a flying winger to pick out Carroll at every opportunity and their partnership will be the key to getting the best out of our newly acquired England striker. He simply didn’t have the service at Liverpool from the likes of Stewart Downing who’s assists record since he went to Anfield has been truly appalling.

The midfield steel provided by Alou Diarra and Mohamed Diame will provide protection against the meanest attacks in the league, and will be essential for those oh so tough away days in the north of England.

Yossi Benayoun’s return after 5 years to the Boleyn will give us that much needed creativity, flair and guile to unlock opposition defences. We never really replaced Yossi after he left under somewhat of a cloud to join Liverpool; Alan Curbishley wasted millions on the likes Freddie Ljungberg and Kieron Dyer to fill the void, but after 5 long years we’ve finally replace Yossi with…the man himself.

One concern I’d have from our summer business was our failure to sign another centre half. We only have three recognised CB’s on our books and we’re potentially only a couple of injuries/suspensions away from a problem; but overall I look at the quality that’s come through our doors and I can’t help but feel we won’t be anywhere near the drop-zone.

Compare the West Ham squad on the 1st September 2011 to the class of 2012 to see how far we’ve come…Carroll for Carew I think neatly sums it up.
