This partnership will be key for the Hammers

|

So before kick-off on Saturday the commentator on Sky informed us that Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan scored in excess of forty goals between them in the Npower Championship a few seasons back. From there we were again reliably informed that Carroll and Nolan’s partnership and familiarity could be of a huge benefit to West Ham if they were utilised correctly. Would it work in East London though. 53 seconds (ish) after kick off and Carroll’s flick on found Ricardo Vaz Te, who in return found Nolan. GOAL! Question (and prayers) answered! To claim this was a masterstroke by Sam Allardyce after just 53 seconds would have been too much of an over the top reaction. And despite the enthusiasm of Sky, 53 seconds was too soon to consider it a definite success.

However at full time, despite the pony-tailed assassin leaving proceedings early, it definitely was a success. Carroll was involved in every goal and proved a handful that Brede Hangelaand, a top Premiership defender, couldn’t cope with. His link up play with Nolan and Vaz Te was nothing short of breathtaking and the crowd warmed to him. No mean feat! Assuming we keep him this is a massive signing already proving Sam right. Though it’s not all about Carroll….

Noble got a lot of headlines for his unselfish and tireless performance. Rightly so. Also, to many, Matty Taylor had one of his best games in an Irons shirt, capping off his contribution with his second competitive West Ham goal. BUT, man of the match was Kevin Nolan. A player who in an earlier piece I wrote I mentioned had polarised opinion amongst Hammers’ fans. However, even the staunchest Nolan critic had to be impressed. His touch, vision and confidence were all running high AND he lead the team with professionalism. Not to mention his first minute goal with an expertly controlled volley. The signing of Carroll could be a turning point in Nolan’s West Ham career.

Bare in mind just how close Nolan and Carroll are, the almost telepathic bond they had on the pitch and the way they raised both players and fans alike from the first whistle and Sam has a recipe for success awaiting all us Happy Hammers.

And don’t forget, Yossi and Jarvis are still to come back!

After more than 40 odd years following my beloved irons I thought I’d seen it all. After years of broken dreams and hearts the last relegation kind of finished any enthusiasm I might have had left. The often dire football especially at home didn’t help. I didn’t blame big Sam, he was just working with the dross he had. Then miracle of miracles promotion! But I still wasn’t convinced or enfused for the new season. In fact if I was honest I thought we’d struggle not to go down again. Either way it was going to be a shite season.just had to sustain myself with I big Sam we have to trust and there was always the OS!? Then it all changed! The owners and Big Sam pulled it out of the bag! What vision, what faith in the club we all love! The squad BS started to assemble started to rekindle my hopes again! Hang on a minute, these signings are a little bit tasty! Slowly but surely almost stealthily Sam has thoughtfully assembled a strong, tough, hardworking skilful squad that is hot on teamwork and has real strength in depth. Then we went of the scale! Signing Andy Carroll and yossi was just the icing on the cake! Now I can’t wait for the rest of the season! Top10 min and the Olympic stadium to come! Are thing finally going our way at last. My final thought, well unlike before, it doesn’t matter if other teams know how we play, knowing and stopping are two different things! Think of Bolton or even stoke, horrible football teams but little you could do about it! But with one big difference, this team can play football!

  • what a game, it was just so good to the West Ham player linking up that way.
    Long may it continue
