Ready to make an impact?

<   With Andy Carroll now facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after his devastating debut against Fulham; the spotlight once again falls on Carlton Cole to lead the line for West Ham.

Cole will be backed up by Mali international striker/winger Modibo Maiga…but can the two of them combined fill the rather sizeable boots left empty by Carroll’s untimely injury?

We all know what Cole’s about; he’s been at the club for the past 6 years. We know that with the Didier Drogba like performances will come those comparable with a certain Emile Heskey…but what of Maiga?

His scoring record for Sochaux of 24 goals in 59 appearances is better than one in 3 and he’s already off the mark for us after getting his first goal on his first start for the club against Crewe in the cup.

Naturally we’re all disappointed that Carroll is out and we’re how shall I say a little underwhelmed at the thought of Carlton leading the line once more…so could Maiga possibly be the solution?

Whilst Mo can play in wide areas; with the options we now have in Matthew Taylor, Matt Jarvis, Yossi Benayoun and Ricardo Vaz Te it seems mostly likely he will deployed in a more central role.

Sam will see Cole as his first port of call to lead the line and for the time being Maiga will have to look to make an impact from the bench. I think we all expect this at Norwich next Saturday; Carlton to be deployed for the first 60 minutes and if still no break through; throw on the surprise/unknown entity that is Maiga.

Hopefully the twin talents of both front-men will mean Carroll’s loss isn’t too greatly felt.

Let us not forget that Carroll is the unexpected plan B and he has played only one game so far. Maybe we all get too carried away too quickly and are also too Quick to pour scorn on the players we already have!

We have done well in the transfer market and I believe we have enough attacking variations for us not to miss Carroll (impressive start). I believe Cole has different things to his game that can also work for us and he will now be supplied and supported by Jarvis, Vaz te, Nolan, Yossi and a hungry Maiga.

    Have a little faith!
