JT for JT?

|

With the news that John Terry has now quit the national team…a slot has opened up within the squad if not the actual team itself; could this spot be snapped up by our very own JT?

Well certainly at the moment such a notion is absurd as Tonks isn’t starting and is still lacking match fitness/sharpness thanks to a summer sitting on the sidelines as Team GB predictably crashed out of football tournament at the quarter final stage.

Last season however in the Championship Tonks looked like he had all the tools to rise to the top; as a season in the Champ married his ability on the ball with a rugged toughness which he lacked prior to his incursion into the unforgiving nature of football outside of the top flight.

Hopefully the news that John Terry’s international career has been confined to the history books will focus the mind of out burgeoning prodigy to get match fit, reclaim his place in the starting XI and throw his hat into the ring for the now deposed ‘king.’

Everyone knows Tonks has got the tools to at least be in the senior squad of the three lions; but he now must prove himself in the Premier League and his time will come.

So can JT replace JT? In time I reckon he can.

Everyone apart from BFS can see Tomkins has what it takes……

Every goal we have conceded has in some way been down to James Collins – get him out and JT IN!!!

  • Peter Howard says:

Not convinced Tomkins is as good as we hope he is.

I would have agreed with you had I not been at the League Cup game the other night.

Big Sam has probably forgotten more about football than most of us on here will EVER know!
Sometimes we make a big deal of some of our own. There’s no doubting Tomkins has talent, but I’d put my money on Big Sam playing him when he’s ready to play and not before. We talk about talent but during the Olympics I wasn’t too impressed with him, although Caulker of spuds DID impress me. Also our performance in the cup has probably cooled a few who thought we had world class and ready players in the development squad!

He’s just not that good unfortunately. Makes lots of stupid unforced errors and constantly gets caught on the turn. He was terrible on Wednesday in the cup, but to be fair so was everybody else.

Seems we’re very good at West Ham at talking up potential ‘stars of the future’ who never actualy go on to do anything. Sears, Hines, Stanislas, Montano to name a few.

Same goes for Jordan Spence, average at best.

Ashamed to say it but Caulker at Sp**s looks a much better player than Tomkins and should be in the England team long before JT gets anywhere near it.

    Winston Reid has potential.

  • Ludo says:

Slightly optimistic. Even if he was match fit he wouldn’t get into the England team straight-away

  • Hong Kong Phooey says:

He was shocking on Tuesday and also at the Olympics. Not sure what has happened since the the play off final so for that reason I’m out.
