Five things we learnt against Crewe

|

So, West Ham United cruised to victory against Crewe Alexandra, advancing into the next round of the Capital One Cup. It just doesn’t feel right calling it the Capital One Cup, does it?! The win was a welcome break from the loss to Swansea City in the Premier League, but what points can we take from it?

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

1. Stephen Henderson almost makes mistakes too! – He had an unlucky moment when the ball he struck deflected off a Crewe player and nearly resulted in an away goal, but Hendo’s blushes were spared when the ball flew over the bar. But apart from that, he had a solid display between the sticks and I think he could well be our first team goalkeeper come Saturday.

2. We’re not as bad as Fulham! – Our Premier League counterparts weren’t as lucky as us, with Sheffield Wednesday being crowned thegiant killers of this round. I must admit it was refreshing not to be the laughing stock of the competition; it seems to be us quite often!

3. The kids are alright – So, Sam Allardyce, played some of the youngsters, and they did good! Fanimo looked good on the ball, creating some good chances for us. Rob Hall also seemed confident and Dan Potts assured. It’ll be good to see them get some match time in the Premier League under their belts.

4. Nicky Maynard should perhaps start a few matches – I think people view him as a bench warmer, but I definitely think he could shine in the Premier League if Big Sam gives him match time to show what he’s got. Maybe even starting this Saturday…

5. And last but not least – Potts and Moncur were reunited… Well not the ones we remember from the mid-90s, but the next generation at least! Who knows what their future in claret and blue will bring.

And we also learnt you don’t have a clue. “Away goal”? This wasn’t two legged. In fact, there wouldn’t have even been a replay!
