Rumour Mill: Defensive duo on Big Sam’s radar?

|

In James Tomkins and Winston Reid the Hammers centre half pairing for the future looks secure, but with the young pair the only 2 accomplished centre backs at the club. We need experience to not only add a calm head to the backline, but also aid both Reid and Tomkins in their future.

With reports circulating about a raid of Tottenham Hotspurs backline, with moves for William Gallas gathering pace it appears Sam Allardyce is also moving to bring experience into the defence. A move for his Spurs partner Sebastian Bassong the Irons it would appear he has chosen his two targets and is homing in on the pair.

Both for me would be great signings, experience is key if the Hammers are to succeed this season, as much as I would love to see both Tonks and Reidy start, a mixture of youth and experience at the back could be just as effective, with the other being mentored to secure the future of the defence is secure for years to come.

With James Tomkins away with the GB Olympic squad, if Allardyce could tie up a move for the pair, the New Zealand born centre half Reid could begin to learn from the experience of the Spurs pairing. Not only that I believe the acquiring of Gallas and/or Bassong could be great when the Hammers whip in balls from set pieces. With Mohamed Diame, Carlton Cole, Kevin Nolan and Tomkins already coming forward our set pieces are looking likely to be an important weapon as the season draws closer.

With Gallas, the Irons would be signing a player who is a born winner, having played for Arsenal and Chelsea where he picked up Premier League medals galore, he would bring a calm head to a back line that is full of youth and exuberance. Gallas’ experience could prove to be vital this season as the Hammers push for a mid-table finish.

The only worry for me, is if the former Gunner and Blues centre half fitness, however with the Irons we know that that isn’t a main concern and I think that we were all shocked when Mangane failed a medical at the club, are times changing, I mean Keiron Dyer even passed one!

But all in all, I think if the Irons secure the deal for either Bassong or Gallas would prove to fantastic business if the deal was to go through.

Come on you Irons!

Would not do any buisness with Spurs, would prefer Dedryck Boyata and Zac Knight. Also signing Jose Bosigwa, Martin Olsson and Andy Carroll added to the current squad should see us competing in the Premier League.

I really liked that Abdoulaye Ba at porto, he looks classy and only 21. Shame we couldnt get a permit for him, if we were man united it wouldnt be a problem im sure.
