My FIVE favourite Hammers

|
  1. Carlos Tevez – One of the most thrilling of Premier League relegation tussles was West Ham United’s great escape. Despite the controversial acquisition of experienced midfielder Javier Mascherano and deadly striker Carlos Tevez, the pair struggled to fit in to English football and the Irons were stranded in the lowly position of 20th, bottom of the table at Christmas. However it was not long before Tevez found his shooting boots hung up in the Hammers’ dressing room and the formidable Argentinian banged in 7 goals with the majority at the latter end of the season to secure premier league survival with the pick of the bunch against Manchester United away at Old Trafford to guarantee safety.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

  1. Scott Parker – East end boy and hard worker “Scotty” Parker was a late developer in football and flourished at West Ham United after injury prone spells at Newcastle United and Chelsea. Parker made in total 113 appearances for United, scoring 10 goals, with the most memorable being a 25 yard screamer against Wigan Athletic to help West Ham ensure Premier League survival once more in a tough season that saw the leader like figure shine amongst other such as Mark Noble.
  1. Tony Cottee – Tony, another local lad and the most prolific striker since Geoff Hurst, was a little before my time, however Tony has to be totally respected for his goal scoring record of 117 goals in 265 appearances, shooting West Ham United to their highest ever league finish of 3rd in the ‘85/’86 season. Tony has continued to work in football in the media since his retirement, however he will always remain a loyal Irons fan.

  1. Paolo Di Canio – At times, controversial, abrasive and gritty, Paolo warmed Hammers fan’s hearts with his flair, dedication and Italian passion. A true Hammer, Di Canio, scored 48 goals in 118 appearances for the Hammers across the start of the millennium many of which were spectacular including a spectacular sciscor kick against Wimbledon which was voted as BBC goal of the decade and a contender for the greatest Premier League goal of all time.

  1. Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters and Bobby Moore – The three amigos can hardly be separated for what they did for club and country. Spanning an enormous 1257 appearances between them, Hammers too young to have seen them play will have heard of their legacy and what they did for both club and country in which was one of the most successful spells for both. While the former pair have to be considered, Bobby must be singled out as a true son of West Ham United, a player whom the great Pele listed as one of the greatest he had ever played against. England World Cup winning captain, West Ham United FA and Cup Winners Cup winning captain and West Ham United Legend. The late great Bobby Moore has to be my favourite Hammer of all time.

I was surprised to see Tevez in the top five, he only had about ten good games, and was shocking for the rest of the season. The great escape elevates him i suppose, not to mention he was spotted out drinking with man u whilst a whu player.

No way Tevez or Parker can ever be in a list of all time Hammers ahead of Sir Trevor or Billy Bonds!!!!!!

  • Jimmy says:

Laughable. No Dicks, Bonds or Brooking and Tevez and Parker are included???

  • Old Jack says:

Scott Parker and Carlos Tevez not long enough at the Club to warrent your ranking. Billy Bonds, TrevorBrooking would be musts. And somtime back who would have not included Pop Robson who scored goals galore Leaving for Newcastle(where he came from) and returning to carry on where he left off.

Bear in mind that it is my Five Favourite Hammers and not the five greatest hammers of all time. While the immortal world cup winners of ’66 bill my number one spot, their feats are well documented. However as a hammer from a younger generation I have seen less of the likes of Geoff Hurst and Billy Bonds and although I respect them as club legends, they arn’t in my favourite 5!

  • Bilel Mohsni says:

    Why I not in 5?

  • rlk1 says:

    5- James Tomkins
    4- Trevor Brooking
    3- Billy Bonds
    2- Mark Noble
1- Martin Peters, Sir Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst
