CD the CB for WH?

|

Sam Allardyce has recently sounded out his frustration at West Ham’s lack of transfer activity this pre season claiming we had signed 2 of 12 potential signings. He is looking to increase the quality of the squad and is clearly hunting for defenders to bolster the defensive numbers. And Birmingham City’s Curtis Davies is the most recent in a long line of defenders that have been rumoured to be considering making the move to East London.

Curtis is a local lad and was born in Leytonstone in March 1985. He was a trainee at Wimbledon before being released and was picked up by Luton. He was both Young Player of the year and Player of the year in the 2004-5 season and was included in the League One Team of the Year. This led him to moving to West Brom for £3m.

He was named captain at West Brom becoming their second youngest captain of all time however this relationship soured and he eventually handed in a transfer request before moving to Aston Villa on a season long loan.

His loan proved successful and he move their permanently (for a fee reported to be between £8-10m). However the form of James Collins and Richard Dunne kept him out of the starting 11 and he made a loan move to Leicester City and following that in January 2011 he moved to rivals Brimingham.

He is touted my many to be a solid and reliable centre back that would flourish given a good run in the first team. But would he get this at West Ham given the partnership of Winston Reid and James Tomkins last season? Would he be happy on the bench?

Let us know what you think. Is Curtis Davies the answer to the West Ham’s centre back conundrum? Is he better that other transfer targets Scott Dann, Abdoulaye Ba or Douglas?

He is a far better player than Reid and would be an ideal partner for tomkins
Reid is not strong enough for the prem as a starting defender and if we don’t improve centre back and right back areas we will be in real trouble this season. Even at left back we are weak and whilst jussi is not bad he is not as good as green
