Big Sam to ‘win’ the sack race?

|

Every pre-season the betting companies look into their crystal balls and predict the odds of which Premier League manager will leave his post next. This year many of the betting companies have installed West Ham boss Sam Allardyce as the favourite with some putting him at 7/1.

Last season saw a number of causalities including Steve Bruce, Neil Warnock, Mick McCarthy and AVB. The managerial merry-go-round continued at the end of the season with Roy Hodgson leaving to take over England, while Alex McLeish, Kenny Dalglish and Harry Redknapp were all sacked.

It has been stated that Big Sam apparently looks vulnerable especially with a troublesome first seson back in the Premiership and also with Harry Redknapp currently out of work. But with winnable games at the start of season against Aston Villa, Swansea, Fulham, Norwich City and Sunderland surely there must be better candidates for sack race. Avram Grant had a shocking start to the season in the 2010-11 and lasted for the entirety of the season.

Sam has a 2 year contract and David Gold and David Sullivan have always stated they are behind him and want stability for the long term. When they took over they stated “We appointed four managers and parted company with two at Birmingham in 16 years. We believe in our managers and give them the time and support they need.” That said they’ve appointed 2 managers in last 2 years! But I think the rumours of Harry returning are drivel and other than a shocking start to the season or issues with the transfer policy akin to Curbishley, I can’t see Big Sam being leaving any time soon.

But what do you think? Will Sam still be at West Ham come the end of the season?

Could a faltering start to the season spell the demise of Sam? And would you welcome back Harry? Let us know.

Will Sam Allardyce be the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season?

I don’t agree at all – nobody at West Ham is expecting a miracle this season, we would all be happy with consolidation/survival in the Premier League to be built on next year. There is a completely different attitude/mindset amongst the players now, and Big Sam is the best man-manager we have had for a long time.

We need to back Big Sam this season whatever happens – I, for one, hope he gets a new/extended contract.

    COYI!

I dont agree with Jack.He is wrong.Curbs Pardew and Zola was better than BIG SAM.We must back to West Ham’s way

    • Jim says:

Back to West Ham’s way? What’s that? Losing most matches? Letting our heads drop when we go a goal down? Being a guaranteed 6 points to every big team in the league? Being the laughing stock of the Prem? Pardon my French but you’re talking out of your arse. As for Zola, check the stats. He’s our worst manager in our history winning around 20% of his games.

Wake up and smell the Claret!

West ham way is play as Swansea,on the floor not moon style of BIG SAM.He is very easy for opposing teams to solve our tactics.

    • Chris says:

Zola better than big Sam,I hope you are joking! He was the worst manager we have ever had. And what is the west ham way? Playing pretty football, losing games we should have won and seeing our best players leave….no thanks. I want to see us building a better future and Sam can help us to achieve that with his experience. It will be a difficult season but we have the right man for the job.

    The west Ham way ?
Curbs had Tevez on the line defending corners.
    Pardew was lucky.
    Zola was boring & weak
Sam is the man to keep us up.

We haven’t kicked a ball in the Prem’ yet & people are already talking about BFS being sacked. For goodness sake, give the guy a chance. He’s trying hard to sign quality players in order to get the Club to where we expect it shuld be.

Firstly we should be aiming to consolidate our Premiership position, then move on from there. We have to remember that we don’t have countless £millions to spend. Also, the mismanagement of the Club by former owners has belittled us somewhat as well as the constant below par performances of former so called top players.

If we can bolster the defence & get a quality striker then we shouldn’t do too bad.

  • Marc Attreed says:

BFS is the man for us!! He is a good manager and I am sure he will do the job for us. G&S dont sack managers mid season, they didnt do it with Birmingham and haven’t done it here so I certainly cant see us sacking him any time soon. Nobody has actually said if they would like old ‘Arry back at the club, I personally think that ship has sailed and we shouldn’t welcome him back. I am hoping BFS is here for a while to prove all the doubters wrong.

  • Harry The Hammer says:

BFS has won the fan base over. He has the time next season to get us firing on all cylinders.

As for arry coming back, I would rather eat a dog shite sandwich!

  • Trevor says:

Really don’t understand, BIG SAM has just got us promotion, broke our away record, scored loads of goals and is trying to build a Premier League side. Or would everyone like GRANT back ????????
Play the West Ham way – no thanks I will settle for 20 1-0’s if necessary, Trevor

  • The Cat says:

Sack???…….. This is nonsense journalism. Big Sam’s job is safe as the owners have previously stated on many occasions.
Big Sam currently has the Best win percentage record of Any West Ham manager in history so far. If we manage to get the 4 plus quality additions to add to our squad, we could well consolidate our position in the Premiership with games to spare.
    COYI

  • John pantsil's pants says:

Did anyone read the article? The journalist clearly doesn’t state that he believes this just that betting companies have installed Sam as the favourite. Lazy reading more like The Cat.

    • The Cat says:

      Re-Read dummy!
Nonsense journalism using sound bites (I guess odds means betting companies?)

  • The Cat says:

    ….maybe that’s why you’ll always be pants I guess!

  • Alex says:

i ain’t heard “big fat sam’s claret and blue army” chanted yet,not even in the play-off, but then we’ve slipped into “we are west ham’s claret and blue army” for some time now as we’ve had a succession of rubbish managers. I’d love to hear it really but we’re a funny lot ain’t we. lets hope we grow some nuts, sing for our manager (one of our own!) and not cry and boo for nothing

  • montaz says:

NOW THAT BFS HAS ALL HIS NEW SIGNINGS, AND ONCE THE UGLY FOOTBALL CONTINUES AT UPTON PARK THE CHANTS WILL BE “ALLERDYCE OUT,HARRY IN” TO PLAY THE WEST HAM WAY…HARRY REDKNAPP`S CLARET AND BLUE ARMY..
