Rumour Mill round-up

West Ham have been linked with young central defender Alvaro. Alvaro is regarded as being one of the best young defenders in Spain, standing at 6ft and a mere 22 years of age he made the jump into the Racing de Santander starting XI after injuries.

Making 48 appearances for Racing B and 37 for the first team he has a season firmly under his belts and the appeal of West Ham’s youth system and the management of young players could be tempting enough never mind the opportunity to display his game on the greatest stage in football, the Premier League.

From defence to attack and for the 3rd transfer window in a row Yannick Sagbo’s name has popped up, with Allardyce chasing forwards left, right and centre it would come as no surprise that he’s interested in the 24 year old French born Ivorian striker.

Sagbo started his professional career with Monaco suffering a 20 game drought of goals, his fortunes picked up when he made the switch to Evian and he scored 12 goals for a team who finished 9th in Ligue 1, £4 million seems to be the reported figure that Evian would need to consider selling.

The saga of Grant Holt and West Ham continues with two bids reportedly rejected and a £5.5 million bid matching Norwich’s evaluation of the player now being offered only time will tell if the 31 year old goal getter will be signing on the dotted line ready for the new season. With 15 goals in 35 Premier League games he would undoubtedly benefit the Hammers.

Luc Castaignos moved to Inter Milan for £3 million last year after an impressive two seasons with Feyenoord, scoring 15 goals in 35 games. The 19 year old Dutch hit man has played for both the u-19 and under-17 squads the latter was where he was likened to Thierry Henry and he became the all time highest scoring u-17 Dutch player. With only 6 appearances for the Italian giants, scoring once, he has drawn the attention of West Ham as to a possible loan move but Internazionale are said to be setting preference on loaning him to a Serie A club.

Alessandro Gamberini has put a number of clubs on high alert due to his contract with Fiorentina ending July 2013. The Viola player’s agent has said two clubs, West Ham and Bayern Leverkusen have directly contacted him in regards to the player’s intentions. The strong and commanding centre back would be just what West Ham would need and at 30 years old has all the experience needed to deal with the Premier League but with the player being said to be fiercely loyal to the Italian outfit, is keen to see out his contract.

DJ Campbell is to be trimmed from the QPR squad ahead of the new season and according to The Sun West Ham and Reading are set to battle it out for the players signature. The Hammersmith born lad had a less than exciting season in which 11 appearances rendered a disappointing one goal return and his career has been average at best, 147 goals in 350 games (65 scored for Yeading) but with a transfer as little as £750,000 could make it worth a punt and would make a useful bench player.

Fan favourite George McCartney is on the verge of pulling on a claret and blue shirt permanently. After a successful season long loan from the Black Cats, Big Sam is keen to have the left back signed on ready for the new season. It is suspected that the defender who was voted as theWest Ham Players Player would be available on a free transfer or at worst a nominal fee.

Frank Nouble has signed for Wolves after being released by West Ham a shock move too many Hammers fans and a disappointing move, hopefully the big forward will make his name with his new club.
