Rumour Mill: Hammers looking for a Victor?

|

According to the Mirror, West Ham are targeting another Celtic player, this time 20 year old Kenyan Victor Wanyama. Allardyce is keen to bolster his midfield with an anchorman, and Wanyama might just fit the bill. After Celtic snapped him up for £900,000 last year, just a season into his Celtic career, and with 3 years left on his contract, has reportedly told the league winners that he wants to test himself in the Premier League. However, with such a long time left on his existing contract, he won’t be available on the cheap. Celtic are looking for £7million for the youngster.

After signing from the fantastically named Belgian side Beerschot, Wanyama has enjoyed a fantastic first season at Celtic, scoring 4 goals in the process including a particularly notable 25 yard strike against Hearts. His strength is in his defensive side of his play however, playing as a defensive midfielder, as well as an impressive spell at centre half. He is said to be calm in possession, a good passer, and physically strong, standing at an imposing 6′ 2″. His impressive start to his career has also seen him establish himself in the Kenyan side, earning him an 17 senior international caps.

However, we are not the only side keeping an eye on the Celtic player. The Mirror reports that QPR are also interested, with other reports suggesting Liverpool are keen to seal his signature, meaning there will be stiff competition. However, this is an exciting, ambitious target for Sam Allardyce. Of course, this may be fabrication as can many of our other ‘potential signings’, but we can be encouraged with the calibre of players we are being linked with right now. With reports suggesting West Ham are keen to make a marquee signing, with a list of target being drawn up gives reason to be excited and optimistic for the start of the season. If we can beat the big clubs to one or two signings, we will be in great stead for next season.

With BFS back from his holidays today, expect the rumours to mount, and the signings to start being confirmed. I will be posting on potential signings in our ‘Rumour Mill’ on a regular basis throughout the summer.

unlikely as it appears we’re getting Diame

    they’re both very similar

Sounds decent and is still young but you never quite know how good a player really is when they are playing in the SPL as, barring Celticand Rangers, it is probably similar to League 1 level. Hope we get Diame who is available on a free transfer and has proven himself in the Premier Lague already. Getting Diame would be a real steal as he will cost nothing

Ludo: wanyama would be a terrific singing for any premiership team! He this season has arguably been Celtics standout most consistant player and he has raw talent waiting to be unearthed and as for the Celtic league 1 comment keep in mind that in the champions league this year

Whoops europaleague that celtic played convincingly against athletico Madrid and held udinesse without any hastle and that was with a newly formed squad! As I am a both Celtic and west ham fan I can only say Celtic would take the hammers to the cleaners!

I’m Kenyan and saw Victor play here,he’s good but I doubt he’s ready for EPL.Another season or 2 at SPL is important and I hope his agent doesn’t push him towards EPL.Look at what happened to his bro,Mariga when he moved to a big club(Inter from parma)too soon.Bid your time Vic,your big break will come!
