This time, we’re rumoured to be after Italian central defender Alessandro Gamberini, who currently plays for Fiorentina.
The 31 year old’s current deal expires next June, and there has apparently been a lot of interest in him, both in Italy and England.

His agent has reportedly said: “Alessandro has another year on his contract at Fiorentina and his priority remains the Viola shirt,” Francesco Romano told Julie Italia.
“We’ll talk with the club and evaluate what to do, because there have been plenty of approaches.
“Napoli? At the moment I haven’t heard anything from them.
“I have been contacted directly by two foreign sides – West Ham United and Bayer Leverkusen have asked about the player.
“But Alessandro is a Fiorentina player and I have said that they must speak with the club.”
Gamberini was made Fiorentina’s captain last year, and I can’t help thinking that they’ll be reluctant to let him go, especially if it’s just for cover for Winston Reid or James Tomkins.

Saying that, I think at the right price, Gamberini would be a solid signing for the club, especially in a position where we have a shortage of cover. Who knows; he’s spent 8 years at Fiorentina so he may not even want a move away anyway!

i believe Gamberini would be a fantastic addition. Id imagine as Zola, Di Canio, Di Matteo etc, they all furthered their reputation by playing over here. Gamberini could do the same and experience life in the Premier League and London and West Ham. There are attractions and if he wants to go into mgt (he’s a leader) the experience would fair him well for that kind of future. … Ive seen him play several times and he’s always looked good and solid. and obtainable for a WH that shows ambition… We definitely need competition at centre back. … The one hesitation is if he would fit in in the dressing room if he’s the only italian and if his english is poor. remember diamanti had behrami to pair with. … im sure BS has thought about that though.
Would be a solid signing. But we should have given Faye a new contract aswell as he was good cover in the position
