Lets go fly a Kight?

|

I know for sure that some West Ham fans are getting extremely bored of transfer rumours now but it is getting to the time where rumours become deals.

Some people on social network sites claim to be ‘in the know’ but you really can’t get carried away until you see club confirmation can you?

One current rumour doing the rounds was started by the Daily Mirror and it involved Wolves’ winger Michael Kightly. Born in Basildon, Essex, Kightly played for local clubs Basildon United, Grays Athletic and Southend United after his youth release from Hammers’ rivals Tottenham Hostpur before beginning his six year spell with Wolves.

Over 100 appearances later and now it seems Kightly’s time in the Midlands could be over, with a move back to the Premier League and London possibly his main ambition. Fellow Wolves wingers Stephen Hunt and Matt Jarvis will also be looking for that escape route too so Wolves will have to make a decision regarding who they can afford to let go.

For me, Jarvis is the better option, but will be more expensive. Kightly has a bit of David Bentley about him, not a lot else apart from his delivery, and West Ham can’t afford to have any passengers going into their Premier League campaign.

Jarvis however has blistering pace and a terrific attack minded approach that has maybe been missing from Upton Park since the days of Matthew Etherington and co. With Wolves in a sound financial position, the need to cut the wage bill and sell some big names is not a must, unusual for relegated sides, so they are likely to want at least £6million for Jarvis, who earned an England call up just last year.

Now back from his well earned summer break, Sam Allardyce will want to get his business done early, as most bosses do, and with West Ham having little chance of snatching any decent talent from Euro2012 we could see some real movement in the next fortnight.

I can’t see Sam going for Kightly and I am slightly surprised the rumour even made the newspapers but Jarvis is a real possibility and with attack-minded players clearly at the top of Allardyce’s wish list, he could be ideal. We can’t forget that more players will also be shown the door and Sam will be hoping to get any deadwood (Sears, Piq, etc) out of the club just as quickly as he wants to bring players to balance the 25-man squad that will lead the Hammers into the Premier League campaign.

pay the money & get Jarvis.

You get what you pay for after all & he is exactly the player we need. If we go cheap we go down! Simples! Only add players that bring something to the existing squad otherwise you should give the youngsters a chance to prove themselves

No, we can do better than Kightly.

jarvis is decent but i think wolves are looking for £10m , bit steep

gotta aim higher than Kightly, not good enough to get into the wolves team on a regular basis and they got relegated. I think that says it all. He will end up at a team like Ipswich, a good championship side.
