J Rod? Zaha?

|

A couple of weeks ago West Ham were battling it out with fellow newly promoted south coast club Southampton and beaten semi-finalists Cardiff City for young Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez.

Since then it seems that Southampton have stolen a march on the highly rated striker, but for SEVEN million pound, I’m relieved we seem to have missed out on him.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

Yes he has a superb future in the game, but it would have been a huge risk if the Hammers spent such a large amount of money on a hope that he will live up to his potential. As I write this the Irons

are hoping to hammer out a deal for young Crystal Palace prospect Wilfried Zaha, someone who I believe has far more potential that the Burnley number 9.

The Hammers are willing to offer Sam Baldock in part exchange for the young striker, and the Irons are hopeful of securing a deal. Back to Rodriguez, I do think he has plenty of talent and I think he has got the potential to be a Premier League star, but if the fee is as suspected seven million I would rather spend our budget on a proven striker like Yakubu and someone with potential for the seven million, Zaha fits that bill.

When I watch the Burnley number 9 at Upton Park this year, yes he cause problems, but the only player who gave James Tomkins the run around this year was Zaha, and if the Hammers could secure the deal it would prove to be a real coup. It would be a real shame if the Irons lose Baldock permanently, but unfortunately I don’t see little Sam appearing that much at all this year, so If the Hammers could lose Baldock just on a temporary basis, as a sweetener I find it as a great idea.

Meanwhile, the Hammers have missed out on Bas Dost who appears to have signed for Wolfsburg, the seven million pound rated man, has moved to the German giants, rejected a move to the

Premier League, and although it appears that the Hammers never had a bid accepted no doubt Big Sam would be disappointed to have missed out.

The Irons could also miss out on Yakubu, after seeing a bid accepted; a move to China may appeal more to the Nigerian, as the wages available are astronomical compared to that West Ham could offer.

West Ham will hope to secure some new signings within the next few weeks however with Sunderland duo Kieran Richardson and George McCartney who spent the season on loan in the East

end last season, are set to sign for the Irons.

So back to the original question, is Jay Rodriguez worth seven million and would I like West Ham to sign him? I would love the Hammers to sign him, but the fee being touted of seven million is

something I would not want to offer, for the type of player he is I feel that is a huge amount of money. I would like to wish him well, just as long as he has two shockers against us next season.

Come on you Irons!

  • If it’s “run arounds” you’ll be short of next season, then by all means pursue Zaha. However, I suspect the scoring of goals is what Southampton are after and there endeth the comparison!

i have to say, i think Zaha would be better for us, however i do think that rodriguez would be a great addition to the side and add some width and depth which is what we need, southampton can score goals no doubt and if they are after someone then it is to add to their goals, very similar to blackpool and look where they are after 1 year in the prem

Im a hammers fan who lives in burnley and happen to be very good mates with jay rods brother, having played football with him since i was young… From what ive heard i dont think will be seeing jay rod at upton park next season

Overall I believe Rodriguez is good, but not 7 million quid good. We are linked to Kenwyne Jones who at 27 is a good player and could score goals. Plus the deal is only 3 million which I think could prove worth while

What will be will be.The fans rarely get a say in who their clubs buy,so all you can do is get behind anyone who pulls on the claret & blue shirt.

  • Adkins says:

Adkins knows what he is doing.

  • WokingSaint says:

Zaha is a little like Maynard – likely of giving you one great performance in every 5.

I would steer well clear of Kenwyne Jones. Nothing but trouble. On his day he’s a great player – it’s just a shame he chooses his day.

Adkins likes players who are solid like JayRod and maybe not as flamboyant as the likes of Zaha, Jones and Maynard. £7m is a lot, but compare that to the price of Henderson or Downing and it doesn’t seem so bad for English talent.

As for Baldock, it would be a shame if you dumped him so soon. I don’t think he’s done much wrong and has potential.

    • Garry says:

I would love the hammers to get both Zaha and jones. Then Sam needs one or two more players early and a deal or two at the end of the transfere market .

  • Matt says:

Just think, if you hadn’t of wasted 7M on Maynard and Baldock, you too could afford Jay Rod.

  • Ironman says:

Matt we ‘wasted’ a combined fee of £4.5 million and Maynard and Baldock and got Vaz Te at a bargain £500k who scored what 25 goals with us and Barnsley last season.

  • EastStandHammer says:

I don’t think money was wasted at all on Baldock or Maynard the problem was Sam likes Cole upfront with two wingers, I don’t think we will play that system in the prem for some reason I think he’ll go with two up top with the likes of cole and jones two big players to hold it up, possibly holt if signed, I don’t think Baldock is ready yet but I wouldn’t want us to sell him! Loan would be perfect and Maynard will be superb off the bench and if he gets a run in the team I hope he takes that opportunity
