Has he won us over?

|

It’s been just over a month since Big Sam Allardyce made many a Hammer very proud and happy as they walked down Wembley way after a nerve jangling 90 minutes of football, but he completed his bold expectations, he has led our great club back to where we belong.

I remember after a hard fought away win in Peterborough where he faced a barrage of abuse from the travelling Hammers following a series of dour draws. Chant of “West Ham United We play on the floor” was aimed at the Birmingham born manager, he responded by calling the West Ham fans deluded. A brave move indeed, since that result and statement results changed and the football was superb. Despite what looked like a risky move, and many fans turned on Allardyce, but what has followed is a great amount of respect and admiration for a man that has guided us back to the Premier League.

Now just a month later, he is leaving us tantalised and excited with rumours of some big name signings, as news materialised that he was in talks with Inter Milan and Juventus for highly sought after youngster Luc Castaignos and Dutch winger Elia, the way he works his magic has left fans in awe and trust his work when it comes to transfers. When was the last time we were talking to Inter and Juventus over a player, and it just goes to show how respected and well known Allardyce is in the world of football and he is bringing it to the Boleyn.

There is a buzz around Upton Park that there hasn’t been for a long time, fans are excited and expectant as we approach next season on a high following what turned out to be a fantastic first season for Sam Allardyce. Wembley wins and a home win over arch rivals Millwall despite playing the majority of the game with 10 men no doubt helped his cause. With players like Mohamed Diame joining the club despite interest from Liverpool, the hope of more big name players has left West Ham fans hopeful of a good season.

Now I’ll admit, I was a little bit worried when Allardyce was first appointed, but he has exceeded all my expectations, despite a bit of an iffy start to his career and opening day loss to Cardiff City, the way the team performed away from home quickly won me over. And boy did he do it his way. He brought players in he knew and attracted players like Matty Taylor and Kevin Nolan to a Championship club whilst persuading Carlton Cole to take a pay cut.

His a classy tactician and a great man manger, he knows every opposition needs its own tactics, home and away needs differing tactics, and the games against Brighton where the football on show was mesmerising at times in our 6-0 home win and our scrappy 1-0 away win showed the differing ways of football that both led to 3 points.

So Big Sam keep motivating, keep persuading those players, keep doing what you’re doing because you’ve won me over and many other Hammers. Get a core together and we will do just fine next year.

With Upton Park looking to sell out most weeks next year, it appears you are doing the right thing and winning over the faithful despite some of your risky tactics.

Come on you Irons!

    Definitely won me over.

We’ve not had a manager who knew tactics like Allardyce for many a year. Maybe Pardew did. Have to go back to Lyall and Greenwood before that though.

With Allardyce in charge I feel like we have a chance in every game. Ages since I last felt that.

Can’t fault the bloke. I hope he’s given time to build.

Great article. Appreciate the support of Big Sam as the new season quickly approaches. Allardyce is a very good “total” manager who knows the Premiership and how to do well on a small budget.

He also has demonstrated a great ability to win ugly at all costs with incredible mental strength. (England would have loved to have won this way today!) I see him one day managing the National team.

In the meantime, let’s pull some Allardyce strings and bring in the talent we need to march through next season to security, a top ten finish, and a very long stay in top flight football.
