Big Sam should snap up this free agent ASAP

|

As the transfer window officially opens on the 1st of July the Hammers must have been linked with about 100 players or it certainly seems that way.

Now we all know we need a striker to boost our chances of staying up, and Sam Allardyce realises this, with Luc Castaignos seemingly set to sign he has signed one for the future, now what about one for right now.

We have been linked with a conveyer belt of poor players, DJ Campbell and Frazier Campbell being just two I’ve seen. As well as a 6 million pound bid for Grant Holt I’m all for signing the Norwich City skipper but not for that fee! The answer for me is obvious, and he is on a free too. I was first alerted about his availability on the very opinionated and at times ridiculous “Summer Transfer and Rumour thread” on KUMB. The player I was alerted to Mladen Petrić.

The 31 year Croatian international, who will be a free agent from the 1st of July, would tick all the boxes, one experienced striker signing who could walk into the first team, and one youngster who could come off the bench and get game time. His experienced in top leagues in Europe could lead to vital goals at vital times.

Petrić has a good scoring record at all clubs he has performed for as well as on the international stage for his native Croatia. He was described “as a mix between Paolo Di Canio (minus the drama and the political stance) and Dean Ashton (as for goal scoring technique). Although he is over 30 now but good for at least another three or four season”, as described by HamburgHammer on KUMB. If Big Sam could attract both Eljero Elia and Petrić to Upton Park, he would have two players who have played together and would know each other’s games inside out, which surely is an advantage.

A passionate footballer with an keen eye for a goal, is good in the air as well as on the floor, would quickly become a fans favourite thanks to his hard working attitude and of course for his goals.

Petrić would be a signal of intent from Sam Allardyce if he was to move for him, still respected in world football, the only down side of his signature would be his tendency to pick up niggly injuries but if he could stay fit he could teach the younger strikers a few things in training as well as banging in key goals as the Hammers enter the Premier League following their promotion via the play offs.

So Big Sam by all means go for Holt one more time, but don’t get ripped off, especially when there’s talent like Petrić out there on a free who I am sure would jump at the opportunity to play in the

Premier League at his age.

Can we please get Zaha and cline I think the pair for around 12 million is a sign of intent to challenge for Europe . If we get the young boy from inter on loan with the option to buy then I’d be pleased we would only need a centre back then .

Couldn’t agree more! Mladen Petric’s been on my hammer wish list for a while now. much better than Holt!
mostly worried about our backs.. Clyne and D.Simpson would be good signings IMO.

Great shout mate. Petric is a quality player me thinks. Free transfer makes it a good deal. Better than same aged Grant Holt for 4 or 5 million.

Not sure we should sign any more players with a history of injury. Makes me sick when we do that.

QPR just gave Kieron Dyer a new deal. Unbelievable.

Rather have a promising youngster who can play all the time to be honest. Give Baldock or Maynard some playing time.

Petric may have been one of Hamburg’s better players up to 2010-11 but his form last year was even worse than the club’s in general. Yes he’ll score the odd goal, but he appears to have lost his touch and it would be a big risk to see him as a starting player. Slaven Bilic didn’t risk including him in his squad for the Euros and whilst the standard of other Croatian strikers is reasonably high, decent form would have secured a place in the squad. Having said that, I can appreciate that he is the type of strike Big Sam likes.
