Genuinely Looking Forward To The Play-Offs

|

Unlike many other Hammers, I unfortunately knew that automatic promotion was just not going to happen this season after the run of draws earlier this year and even a thrashing of a pathetic Brighton side wasn’t going to get me back on board the bandwagon.

The fastest growing Hammers website is now on Facebook, click the link to be entered into our up and coming competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

I was so pessimistic in fact, that I booked the 3rd and 4th of May off of work as that allows me to travel to the away leg of the play offs and stay the night wherever it may be. As things stand, we will have a Thursday night abroad at Cardiff after hopefully watching a thrilling victory in the Welsh capital on the 3rd May.

There is still a chance that we may travel to Blackpool or Middlesbrough on that date, but the fact that we have already won in South Wales, the North East and of course that 4-1 victory away at Blackpool; which has to be a highlight of the season; must give us confidence of getting one foot at Wembley after the away leg.

One of West Ham’s best days in recent history has to be the play-off final victory over Preston in Cardiff, where Bobby Zamora made history and sent his beloved club back to the big time under Alan Pardew. Some would say that going up via the play-offs is the best way to do it, however I would certainly like to win the league by Easter and do it that way, but it could be quite an occasion at Wembley this time around.

It will be by no means an easy feat, but I would fancy us to beat any side in the play-offs over two legs to reach the final and then it is down to the experienced heads such as Robert Green, Kevin Nolan, Mark Noble, Abdoulaye Faye etc to lead the team to what could turn into an unbelievably messy day, celebrated by 40,000 Hammers in the national stadium.

Everyone will remember the atmosphere at Upton Park when Christian Dailly and Matty Etherington helped us beat Ipswich Town in the play-off semi finals a few years back and another performance from the fans along those lines would be incredible.

So, rather than feeling sorry for ourselves, why not get really geared up for the play-offs and really become the 12th man that it seems the Hammers need to win a game at the moment. We are not going into the knockout competition with much form, but neither are the others and victories over our rivals this season should give us the momentum to repeat that. We are in no way certainties to go up via the play-offs, not even to reach the final, but I am really excited by the prospect of the last few weeks now and a play-off victory would start this summer in the perfect fashion.
