FIVE things we learnt against Leicester City

|

So the dust has settled after our must win game with the Foxes but what if anything did we learn?

1.There’s a resilience amongst the players – After Jermaine Beckford put Leicester in front, no-one panicked, (which it would’ve been so easy to do considering what was at stake) but instead the lads simply brushed off the disappointment and continued to plough on, play good football and get ourselves back into the game with a well worked equaliser from Reid and a sweetly struck winner from Collison. If we are in the play-offs such calmness and resilience under pressure will be vital to our success.

2. Mark Noble is the best midfielder in the league – Noble put in a truly magnificentperformance on the night and really showed his class; rightly voted into the Championship team of the season by his fellow professionals; Noble gave a display that warranted such praise. Nobes ran the game from start to finish and his pass to Matty Taylor which led to the opening goal showed his superb awareness and vision. It’s a mystery why Sky’s man of the match was Ricardo Vaz Te; it was clearly Mark Noble.

3.Jack Collison is back – After returning from a hellish injury that kept him out the whole of last season, Collison has struggled for form and fitness thus far this season; his cause hasn’t been helped by Sam Allardyce who has shunted Jack around all over the place; but finally in his preferred central midfield position at the King Power stadium; Collison put in a lively display which culminated in a truly wonderful strike to win us the game.

4. Ouraway form has been superb – The final whistle at the King Power heralded aglorious 13th away win of the season. Considering there are 23 away games in a season we only failed to win 10 and of those 10 we only lost four.If only our home form corresponded we’d already be up…though if we are in the end of season lottery we could rightly be confident of snatching a vital win in the away leg.

5. It goes to final day – Finally with our win over Leicester City the battle for 2nd spot goes to the final day of the season. We all hope and pray that Coventry will want to go out of the Championship with a real bang and the pressure will tell on Southampton…a West Ham win over Hull City coupled with an extremely unlikely win for Coventry at St Mary’s will see us promoted back to the promised land in 2nd spot without all drama and excruciating pain of the play-offs. As one famous commentator bizarrely quipped after Arsenal scored to make it 2-0 at Anfield to win the title back in 1989 ‘It’s up for grabs now.’

You didn’t want to mention the lack of desire to score any more goals, or Nolan’s possibly fatal selfishness in the last minute?

If we had won at Bristol city we would a lot better placed, then that would down to bottle. so many lost points from drawn matches. Up to the players now-not far off being a good side.coyi

Jon I’m trying to focus on the positive, we missed some good chances to get the goal difference up but imo there wasn’t a lack of desire to score more goals, on another day we would’ve beaten Leicester by 3 or 4.

With one game to go we all need to remain positive, come Saturday afternoon we could be back where we belong, or failing that in a play-off battle, both scenaios require the up-most positivity.
