Three points down, three to go

|

West Ham dominated play to beat Peterborough United 2-0 tonight, with Ricardo Vaz Te making a welcome return to the score sheet with animpressive header.

Gary O’Neil also impressed in midfield and scored a second goal in the 57th minute to seal victory for the Hammers and to move them within a point of promotion rivals Reading.

It was also good to see Julien Faubert make his return, as I think the team have really missed his pace out wide– who would have thought we’dbe saying that a couple of seasons ago!? However, the loss of Abdoulaye Faye in this match is a real worry as he’s been one of our most consistent players and it’ll be a huge loss if he’s out for the Reading game.

We did start the match at London Road with quite a negative 4-5-1 formation, but this proved fruitless in the first half, despite numerous shots on target and corners. It was only in the second half that we really let rip with the right kind of football, and it was great to see. Or… listen to on the radio in my case.

But that’s only half the battle – the Reading game is an absolute ‘must-win’ fixture, with the victor obviously looking more likely toclinch that second automatic promotion spot behind Southampton.

I really hope we play positively against Reading from thevery start of the match, as they’re not a team you can sit back and let playfor long, or we’ll end up punished. I’d like to see Vaz Te and Maynard pair upfrom the start so we can get a real attacking game going.

The fans seem like they were the 12th man tonight– a cliché I know, but I can’t help thinking that with the boo boys gone the team would be a bit less pressurised.

So come on you rip-roaring goal scoring Irons, let’s have it on Saturday! And all you fans going, please please PLEASE get behind the boysso they can get all three points.

I would like to think that the fans will get behind the team on saturday but i expect there patience will run out after ten minutes if we are not winning by at least 2 v 0 !

    Hi Kat,

Good article, although as much as I agree and would like to see Maynard and Vaz Te start, I think Sam will start 4-5-1 with Cole as the target man and Vaz playing just off him on the right.

Either way, hopefully the fans will be positive and the game / outcome will too!

If the fans can see a team that is trying and playing abit of football they will get behind the team if they see a team that is just hoofing the ball and not wanting to play then they will get annoyed which is understandable!! That comes fro the manager so hopefully he plays attacking football from the off!! COYI

I am getting a little fed up hearing all of these manager-like comments from our fans! I think we all have short memories! Negative football or not, with BFS the Hammers seem to be winning away an awful lot more than what we did in the last 20 years or so! Come on guys, get real! The ulimate target here is to be promoted and keep winning! Have faith in BFS and show your support loudly & clearly this Saturday! COYI…
