Rumour Mills

There is no doubt it has been a tough couple of weeks for Hammers fans, with disappointing home results and performances dropping them from top of the league to third in no time. While it may have been a frustrating few games Big Sam and the squad will have to put that behind them as the business end of the season is no place for people who feel sorry for themselves which the squad may have shown signs of last week.

After the big game at Leeds on Saturday, a hectic schedule begins with the Hammers playing pretty much every midweek for a month. Constantly playing three games in a week is sure to put a strain on the West Ham squad but I think it’s fair to say we have the strength in depth capable of coping with it compared to our rivals. But with a week until the loan window closes, Allardyce is typically still on the hunt for some new players to help with the final push towards promotion back to the Premier League.

With Portsmouth and Rangers pretty much placing all of their players on the transfer/loan list due to their financial nightmares, it looks as though Big Sam is willing to take advantage. However, one name that has cropped up on occasion over the past fortnight is centre back Matt Mills who is in and out of the team at Leicester City.

The 25-year-old may be regretting his decision to jump ship from high flying Reading in the summer, moving to big spending Leicester City, whose promotion push has never really come good. Mills arrived at the Walkers (King Power) Stadium and was immediately named captain by Sven, but after he was sacked, Mills has found it tough to keep his form up. It is arguably West Ham’s weakest position number wise, but I am not sure Mills would want to move to Upton Park to become third or more likely fourth choice centre back behind James Tomkins, Abdoulaye Faye and Winston Reid.

As I mentioned the loan window shuts next week so any move would have to be done before then and I am fairly sure West Ham will do some business in that time, but I don’t see Mills as the man to come in. The squad will improve and hopefully the results will too as the nail biting is becoming unbearable!
