After lacklustre performances in the last few games many fans will be wondering if our current crop of youngsters can inject some much needed impetus into the Hammers campaign.
With Frank Nouble joining Barnsley, Freddie Sears being farmed out to Colchester and Danny Collins joining, the Hammers squad’s average age has risen yet again. Big Sam seems to favour older players with experience in his side rather than the energy that youth can bring to a team.

For many years West Ham have had a great tradition in bringing through young players from their famed academy, in fact at one point a few years ago the majority of the England squad had served time under the guidance of Tony Carr, West Ham’s academy boss.
Admittedly the academy is not currently producing the Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard’s of this world but young players offer the raw energy and passion that comes hand in hand with stepping up to the senior level for the first time. Look at when Freddie Sears scored on his debut a few seasons back, you would struggle not to be inspired by the Hornchurch lad’s emotion and delight at scoring for his boyhood club whilst being watched by Hammers legends such as Trevor Brooking and Billy Bonds.

Looking at our current crop only Danny Potts has made a breakthrough this season, although mainly due to a lack of cover in his position. James Tomkins, Mark Noble and Jack Collison are proof that the youth system is still alive but all were well established before Allardyce arrived.
It’s hard to see how any of our youngsters will step into the team considering the sale of Stanislas and Hines in the summer who were probably the hottest prospects. Perhaps Big Sam may look at giving Cristian Montano a run in the side after returning form his second loan spell at Notts County where he has received some impressive reviews.
Allardyce’s current policy of buying most of the forwards in the division and playing them together has caused a lack of confidence in front of goal that comes from rotating too many strikers. Personally, I think the answer is a young lad patiently waiting in the wings since he was signed in January.

As l said in another site we do have to give some youngsters ago not cause there young only if their ready for first grade we just cant rely on experience ,youth and hunger skill pace will do the team l live in Melbourne Australia and our sport is AFL Ausie Rules we rely on youth and experience we have a draft here at end of the season every club picks up 6-8 players 95% are young kids that are ready to play not every kid makes senior level in 1st year but 2nd 3rd year they are ready thats what we have to do with our players at the hammers mature them and let em play in senior side they will make mistakes but thats how we all learn give youth a go now Always love the Mighty Hammers
