Bernard Pascal Maurice Lama was born in Saint-Symphorien, France in 1963. The goalkeeper signed for West Ham in the the January transfer window of the 97/98 campaign from PSG. Prior to that year’s World Cup, Lama signed a short- contract with the club. His’ debut arrived against Arsenal in March 98, in which he kept a clean sheet! Lama only ever had 12 appearances for West Ham between the sticks.

What next for Bernard Lama after his brief stint with the Hammers? Although the club (managed byRedknapp at the time) attempted to make Bernard Lama a permanent signing, Paris Saint-Germain resigned him ahead of their following season. After two seasons at PSG he signed for Rennes in which he constantly performed all season, following his one season with Rennes, Lama retired.

Lama appeared 44 times for his country including the Euro 1996 finals and although he didn’t feature on the pitch, Lama was part of the 23 man squad that won the World cup in France in 98. Regarding Lamas life since retiring from playing football in 2001, in 2006, Lama became manager of the Kenya national team. Eritrea beat Kenya on Lamas managerial debut in the African Cup of Nations qualifying rounds. After just 2 months as Kenya manager Lama stepped down due to what in his opinion was a lack of professionalism on the Kenyan football association’s behalf.
