Is he really a candidate?

Sam Allardyce is among the candidates to succeed Fabio Capello, who sensationally quit as England boss after the FA stripped John Terry of the captaincy.

I’m not too sure where this rumour has came from but I’m quite certain whoever made it up had something funny put in his drink. Yes. Ok, Allardyce is English and he is a decent manager but in my opinion he isn’t good enough to lead the national side. Although he has already ruled himself out and impressively committed himself to us.

Allardyce has made no secret of his interest in the England job throughout his career and came close to landing the role in 2006 after Sven Goran Eriksson’s exit — only to lose out to Steve McClaren.

But this time round Allardyce seems less keen and reiterated his commitment to the Hammers.

He said: “My focus is West Ham United. We’re top of the league and we want to move forward and clinch promotion. “My thoughts are not on the England job at the moment, they are on West Ham.”

Well although I question where Allardyce will take us if we get promoted, I have to admit I admire the man’s loyalty to us given he hasn’t even been with us for a season yet. The England managers job is one that every English manager aims for and it is brilliant to see Allardyce pledging his future to us and somewhat turning down the most wanted job in the country.
