Happy Hammers after deadline day?

|

The January transfer window has slammed shut and been bolted till seasons end, So just how good a business have the West Ham hierarchy done? And are we, as fans happy with what we have been given?

Firstly we had the signing of 24 year old American centre back George John from Fc Dallas on an initial 2 month loan with a view to a permanent deal, we already have Tomkins, Reid, Faye, and Demel all capable centre backs so did we need another one and is he better than those mentioned? Then we added 22 year old, former Man Utd player Joe Dixon from Greys on a two month loan deal.

We continued to be linked to a host of players , especially strikers, Jordan Rhodes ,Nicky Maynard, Billy Sharp, Nikica Jelavic and even Carlos Tevez!!

However, as it turns out we have now officially added Ravel Morrison laying out a fee believed to be around £650k on a three and a half year deal. Morrison has been labelled as one of the most talented youngsters to come through the Old Trafford youth ranks in years and a rated by top journalist Henry Winter as “better than Wilshere and Rodwell”. Morrison, 19 on Thursday, could well be a fantastic addition to our squad .Lets face it we really some creativity in our midfield, it just remains to be seen how big a part Morrison plays in the second half of the season.

Soon after Morrison’s arrival we added Ricardo Vaz Te from Barnsley after both clubs reached an agreement on a deal, Vaz Te has been in superb form so far this season, whilst occupying a wide berth he has chipped in with 12 goals in 24 games, exceptional from a wide man. Of course Vaz Te is well known to Allardyce, Big Sam having bought the young Portuguese forward to Bolton Wanderers in 2003. He certainly could be make an impression at Upton Park , If he’s been signed to continue his role out wide, we could certainly do with more attacking pace and hopefully adding some much needed goals along the way.

I think we would all agree we needed to add more strike options to our squad and any of the players mentioned above could all have an impact on our goals for ratio, but I’m delighted to say the powers that be have gone for Nicky Maynard.

For a fee reported to be in region of £1.65 million this could well be the bargain of the window, Maynard is a young talented forward with pace who certainly knows how to score, The 25 year old hit man has a 1 in 2.7 goal ratio which is fantastic and has signed a two and a half year deal, he could well be the icing on the Hammers Championship cake.

So all in all The Hammers have had a busy transfer window signing four new players of seemingly genuine ability that will definitely bring much needed competition for places and hopefully brighten up our, so far rather dull, attacking play and after Tuesdays diabolical outing to Ipswich Town, I think they have been signed in perfect time.

On the outgoing side , other than the departure of Herita Illunga we kept hold of everyone which is a massive part of any transfer window for the Irons.

I think we should indeed be very happy Hammers in regards to Gold and Sullivan’s work this January, it certainly seems they do their best work this time of year, My only concern in now having plenty of attacking options is simple, Sam Allardyce!!

Allardyce took his table topers to lowly Ipswich, who have the worst defensive record in the league, and played just ONE striker! I really hope now he’s been given the guns he allows them the opportunity to fire.

we have been lucky winning games that maybe we could have lost or drawn but man utd have been doing that for years and people say ‘its the sign of champions when they win even when they are not playing well’The ipswich result had been on the cards for 2-3 weeks so I hope we can turn it round against the gypo’s on saturday maynard, Vaz te, and morrison all potentially good signings.
