It was a festive cracker Boxing Day match up the last time West Ham faced Nottingham Forest, and for Hammers fans, this one was certainly full of festive cheer.

West Ham raced into a two nil lead at half time thanks to goals from Matthew Etherington and Teddy Sheringham and if it wasn’t for Forest goalkeeper Paul Gerrard, West Ham would have certainly been at least four goals ahead at half-time. But instead of pushing home their advantage West Ham allowed Forest to get back into the game after half time, David Johnson pulled one back for Forest with a one yard tap in, and equalised in the 68th minute, beating the West Ham defence and putting the ball into the bottom corner.

Both sides created chances to win the game, but it was Sheringham who secured all three points for the Hammers, heading home from a Powell cross in the 82nd minute.

There would be contrasting emotions at the end of the season for both teams, West Ham would celebrate promotion from the play-offs after finishing 6th, while Nottingham Forest would face relegation after finishing 23rd.
