RUMOUR MILL: If Rhodes is a ‘no go’ then Big Sam will turn his attentions to…

|

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce will make a final £4million offer for Huddersfield hot shot Jordan Rhodes – and turn to Bristol City’s Nicky Maynard if it fails.

Allardyce has made Scotland new boy Rhodes his priority and his money men are backing him all the way. However, Huddersfield are determined to keep top scorer Rhodes for their promotion push and insiders revealed that £4m will still not be enough to tempt them.

Rhodes is also wanted by Fulham, Celtic and Newcastle. But Huddersfield boss Lee Clark is under no pressure to sell his prize asset.

Allardyce will only wait so long and is set to switch to Maynard who is available from Bristol City at around £2.5m – a price that is putting off Wolves chief Mick McCarthy as he looks for a proven goal-scorer.

It’s fairly obvious of course as to why Rhodes is our main target, having scored an incredible 22 goals in 22 appearances so far for league one promotion hopefuls Huddersfield. However as it looks like we will not be able to secure Rhodes’ signature Nicky Maynard is hardly a bad second choice.

The 25 year old Bristol City striker having although only scored 7 goals in 23 appearances is still a big threat in front of goal and a successful target man.

I would personally prefer to see Rhodes come to us, however if our bid for him fails like it looks like it will Maynard will be a valuable signing.
