Hammers closing in on TWO promotions this season

|

West Ham Ladies made sure they stayed in the race for promotion thanks to a tight 1-0 win away to Queens Park Rangers Ladies on Sunday.

A late goal from Lindsey Morgan rescued the three points for the Hammers in what could be a vital win in the push to get promoted from the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division.

It was a close contest that at times looked like it could go either way. Queens Park Rangers came closest early in the second half when they hit the post but it was the Hammers who found the crucial goal when Morgan pounced on a parried shot to fire home.

West Ham currently sit in a promotion place in 2nd with one league game remaining but with three teams still in the hunt and rivals Portsmouth Ladies having two games in hand, West Ham’s fate could yet be out of their own hands.

West Ham are only one point behind Colchester United Ladies, who have now concluded their league campaign. Portsmouth sit four points behind the Hammers in third but with three more league games to play. At this stage the Ladies still have the chance to top the division, end up as runners-up or replicate last year’s disappointment and finish a frustrating third.

West Ham’s last league game is scheduled for March 4th against Brighton and Hove Albion Ladies at home, a long wait as the Hammers now face a series of cup games in the lead up to that crucial match. Next week West Ham travel to their league rivals Colchester United in the League Cup.
