Juventus hero heading to Upton Park?

|

West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are both being linked with Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero. The Italian will leave Juve after it was announced that his contract would not be renewed. The Italian show Tuttosport says talk of a move to A.C Milan has been dismissed by Del Piero and his agent and he favours a move to England particularly London.

On the condition that we return to the Premier League next year then the World Cup winner will consider a move to the Irons. This would be one fantastic addition to the squad. With knowledge of the Champions League and at the very top international level Del Piero would bring something new to the Boleyn Ground. However Big Sam has to take into account the financial terms and also the time frame.

Italy’s fourth all time leading goal scorer is 36 years of age currently and will be 37 when West Ham could get him. 37 is an age that most players, unless a keeper, have retired by and the question has to be asked would Del Piero be able to keep up with the pace of the Premier League at his age?

Despite all of the negatives with his age and fitness he is a player of serious quality and experience of World Cup wins and Champions League football which is a valuable addition to any squad. With roughly 2-3 years left in him he could bring that spark back to Upton Park which has been missing since the days of Di Canio.

Allardyce would have to take into the decisions about his age and he must think about value for money. How much will he cost us and will we get what we paid from him? With teams like QPR and Tottenham also linked there are low chances of us snapping him up but if the opportunity does arise then Big Sam will want someone of his stature in his team to lead the younger players on in the Premier League. However although we can all dream of someone like Del Piero coming to West Ham it is rather unlikely that he will come to us.

Although we are West Ham, anything can happen.
