No Turkish Delight for Cole

|

With the transfer window now slammed shut, West Ham seem to have made some very good signings and sales but should there have been one more?

Carlton Cole is subject to a lot of moaning and groaning from Hammers fans during most games; whether it’s lack of effort or just all round poor play, so surely a decent bid for the player would have been accepted.

Turkish giants Galatasaray made a last ditch £8million bid for the striker at the weekend and as the Turkish transfer window does not close until the 10pm tonight the deal could still have gone through. However, West Ham have decided to reject the bid and hang on to the England hit-man until January at least.

In July, Stoke City had a £6million bid accepted for Cole but the deal fell through after the Potters could not agree personal terms with Cole and he immediately confirmed his commitment to West Ham’s promotion push.

After a good start to the season the London born striker has cemented his place in Sam Allardyce’s side, fighting off competition from Frederick Piquionne and John Carew and now has new signing Sam Baldock to partner in attack.

With that kind of back up for Cole, should West Ham have snatched the money and re-invested it in January when the transfer window opens?

After scoring three goals in five games it is hard to leave Cole out of the team at the moment and with a much bigger prize than £6m for promotion, the club appear to have set their sights on the long term and held on to a much wanted man.

Cole has recently expressed his desire to stay at Upton Park and help the club get back to the Premier League and that is the spirit the club needs if they are going to bounce back at the first attempt.

Good article, Cole’s not my favourite player, not by a long chalk, but l think he’s found his level in the championship. He’s never an England player, never in a million years, but as he’s committed himself to the cause this season, then l’m sure he’ll be there or there abouts for top scorer in the division this season…………..COYI ‘><'
