West Ham cut down Forest

|

Winston Reid’s first goal for West Ham secured an emphatic away win to maintain their 100% away record in the Npower Championship as inspirational Scott Parker was left out of the squad amid his pending transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan also got on the score sheet along with an Adam Chambers own goal which rounded off a performance that will have sent a clear message to the rest of the division that West Ham are going to be a very strong side this season.

A Robbie Findley consolation for Forest was the only bright spark in a very disappointing performance from the hosts as they continue to struggle under new manager Steve McClaren.

The Hammers dominated the first half and made their breakthrough when Matty Taylor fired a low cross into the Forest six yard box and the Reds captain Chambers inexplicably miss kicked a clearance which ended up in the bottom corner of Lee Camp’s goal.

The Londoners quickly doubled their lead inside 25 minutes, as Taylor’s delivery from corners caused more problems; Tomkins headed the ball across goal for Kevin Nolan to head home his second goal for the club.

A third goal came before half time as another Taylor delivery was not dealt with, Joey O’Brien kept it alive on the edge of the box and Winston Reid found an unmarked Carlton Cole with a superb header and the England striker knocked home his third goal of the season.

Forest got back into the game in the second half and Robert Green was tested on a few occasions as McClaren quickly made three changes including bringing on Matt Derbyshire and Andy Reid who brought some much needed experience to the home side.

Findley managed to grab a goal after another substitute Joel Lynch found the American in acres of space in the box for him to smash home, in what turned out to be a consolation for the hosts.

West Ham’s dominance from set pieces told once again as Taylor kept the ball alive from a corner and picked out an unmarked Winston Reid at the back post who finished calmly confirming the fantastic result for Sam Allardyce’s side.

The most promising point to take from the game is the Irons ability to score goals and that was without new signing Sam Baldock from MK Dons to add to the strike force at Upton Park. Goals seem easy to come by for them this season and long may that continue.

it all seems very positive for the Hammers so far this season, the only blip is the fact Kevin Nolan’s had a golden opportunity to win both home games and squandered both, but maybe l’m being nit picky? I don’t care hat we’ve been knocked out of the Mickey Mouse Carling Cup and to be perfectly honest, l’m not bothered about the FA Cup either, I don’t want us to win the league by Christmas…or even win the league, automatic promotion will do me, and with the squad we now have, the play offs will be a huge disappointment for me. Scott Parker’s finally gone and l’m sure he’ll make an impression at Spurs, as his arse will make a permanent indent on the subs bench and when Gerrard’s fit again, his England career will be over. Sam will get them playing together and for each other, which is something Zola and Grant were never able to do. Should be a good season……COYI ‘><'
