Maynard vs Baldock

|

It is clear to see that Sam Allardyce is in desperate need of a goal-scoring striker to bolster his West Ham attack before the end of the summer transfer window.

With Carlton Cole scoring twice in two games, against Watford and Leeds United, a partner for him to play alongside could be the difference between the Hammers bouncing back to the Premier League at the first time of asking or not. Having already purchased John Carew who was a free agent, Big Sam has now set his sights on a proven goal scorer to add the finishing touches to his squad. Both Nicky Maynard and Sam Baldock have been heavily linked with Upton Park in recent weeks and as time is running out, it could take a massive offer for one of the pacey strikers to move to the East End.

Maynard is a proven forward at Championship level firstly with Crewe Alexandra and now Bristol City. Maynard has scored 40 times in 101 appearances in a struggling City side that has attracted major interest from big-spending Leicester City amongst others. The London born striker also won the Football League Goal of the Year award in 2010 after his sensational strike away at Queens Park Rangers that only enhanced his growing reputation that could earn him a move to West Ham.

Another striker that is linked with the club is MK Dons hitman Baldock who has already rejected a £1.2million move to Peterborough this summer, setting his sights higher to the likes of West Ham.

Baldock’s reputation isn’t as big as Maynard, but having already scored a hat-trick in League One this season, his current form could seal him a move away from Stadium MK to the Championship.

Having spent his whole career with the Dons so far, Baldock has scored 45 goals in 124 games in all competitions and is already looking like adding to that this season. Baldock was also brought into the England U-20 World Cup squad in Egypt in 2009 showing that his fine form had not gone unnoticed with the national side.

Both strikers will bring pace and a genuine threat in front of goal, Maynard will be the more expensive signing but will the board give Allardyce the funds to get him or settle for the tireless Baldock who will be available on a cheaper deal?

With time running out to sign a striker, Allardyce will be looking to add a new recruit as soon as possible and both Baldock and Maynard are in the mix to line up for the Hammers as they prepare a push for promotion.

i know it sounds extravagant, but why not get both, West Ham have parachute payments, as well as getting rid of high earning rubbish like Upson, Rigor Mortis….sorry Boa Morte and prima donnas Hitzlsperger and Ba have jumped ship, so there’s money to spend, despite what G&S might say. I reckon Sam should get shot of Piquionne and competition will be more than healthy…..there we are, problem solved lol……COYI ‘><'
