Queens Park Rangers look like leading the race for the signature of former West Ham defender Matthew Upson, according to talksport.
The 32-year old is available on a free transfer after his contract with West Ham expired.
Former West Ham captain Upson first signed for the East London club in January 2007 in a £6 million deal and went on to make 145 appearances for the club. He made 30 appearances in the league last season as The Hammers were relegated to the Championship.
Upson has won 21 caps for England and was in last summer’s ill-fated World Cup squad. He has seemingly fallen out of favour with head coach Fabio Capello lately and will be keen to get his international career back on track.
QPR manager Neil Warnock is keen to add some top-flight experience to his squad and sees Upson as a key acquisition. Having also played for Arsenal and Birmingham the defender has made over 260 appearances in the Premiership.
Having avoided relegation, Mick McCarthy’s Wolves have emerged as rivals to sign Upson as they look to rebuild for next season. However, Upson is rumoured to prefer remaining in London.
