Whose catching Big Sam’s affections?

|

West Ham United have been linked with Swedish forward Mervan Celik after Irons boss Sam Allardyce has said he is looking to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old, who plays for Gais in Gothenburg, scored an impressive 14 goals in 27 games last season as his club finished fifth, playing either up front, on the wing or as an inner midfielder. It shows how diverse he is on the pitch as he can play on either side and said in an interview for Gais, the Swede said “I started as a striker but now I play as an inner midfielder and winger. It does not matter if I play on the right or the left, both positions work for me,” The young attacker has been watched by a handful of English clubs including Middlesbrough and Fulham and is a very hot prospect in football at the moment.

Big Sam is looking to add him to the West Ham squad very soon as he feels he will bring back the tricks and flicks to the Irons’ football. With pace, skill and some very good finishes for his club so far the young footballer looks like he could be something special in the future and West Ham is one place that I personally would want to play for at a young age given the academy reputation and the direction in which the club is going.

I think what Big Sam is trying to achieve by bringing in Celik is what we as a club want to be doing. We should be investing in the future and bringing through the young players as well as trying to get back to the Premier League. It is only half of the battle bringing in the older experienced players to get a club out of the lower leagues but the other half is bringing in the players that could make the club win in higher divisions. By the looks of things Gais’ number 27 could definitely bring this to the Boleyn.

At only 21 years old he is still maturing as a player but he isn’t far off from hitting his prime time. With Big Sam already bringing in Baldock and Lansbury, two young players for this season I think Mervan Celik will be a good addition to our ever growing young squad.
