West Ham Closing In On Deal

|

In-demand Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge looks set for a return to the capital with West Ham in the coming days. Clearly out of favour at Eastlands, the former England defender is in desperate need of first team football and it looks like he could be getting that at Upton Park under Avram Grant very soon.

The Wayne Bridge move to West Ham has been reported in the press this morning, and details are emerging about the transfer. According to the Daily Star, West Ham have agreed to pay the full cost of Bridge’s £70,000 a week wages for the duration of his loan spell. The deal is set to go ahead tomorrow and Bridge will arrive at Upton Park in time to face Arsenal on Saturday.

This news will disappoint Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier, who was keen on taking the 30 year old to Villa Park. Bridge turned down a similar deal at Aston Villa due to his desire to return to London, where he spent a fair time of his career with Chelsea.

As far as West Ham are concerned, this move is likely to kick off their spending in January, with transfers also being lined up for Tottenham’s Robbie Keane and Hoffenheim’s striker Demba Ba.
