West Ham aren’t giving up hope of signing Saint-Etienne defender Kevin Malcuit just yet, according to reports.
However, The Sun now claim that Slaven Bilic is set to follow up on his sustained interest in the Frenchman this summer, with a new bid in the region of £10 million.
Malcuit is predominantly a right back but can play everywhere along the right flank as well as at left-back, and would bring a welcomed measure of versatility to the east Londoners.
Bilic’s squad has suffered from a distinct lack of depth in full-back positions this season, with Aaron Cresswell the only to make a sustained number of appearances this term.
Alvaro Arbeloa failed to impress before being shifted out of the first team squad by Slaven Bilic, while Arthur Masuaku and Sam Byram have both suffered from more than one long-lasting injury already since August.
Michail Antonio was forced to fill in at right-back at the beginning of the season but was clearly not being played to his obvious attacking strengths in the Hammers back line.
25-year-old Malcuit has notched an impressive four assists from right-back for Saint-Etienne this season and could finally be the antidote to West Ham’s woes in the position.
