Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies has denied that any formal bid has been made for their striker Moussa Dembele. Evening Standard reporter James Benge had said that the Hammers had bid £20million for the Frenchman but it seems clear that was not the case.

Davies also said at a press conference that even if a club were to bid £20million for the 20 year old it would be far below their valuation for the player. He is quoted by STV as saying:

“That [figure] is definitely well below the valuation, that’s for sure. I think the manager spoke pretty clearly on that situation previously. There’s been no formal bid or anything like that so it is speculation. From us, we know this is the best place for Moussa to develop.”

The forward has scored 19 goals in all competitions during his first season with the Scottish champions. He signed on a free transfer from Fulham in the summer and has been hailed by none other than France legend and Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as the country’s next big star.

With a move for Dembele seemingly way off the mark, it looks likely that Hammers boss Slaven Bilic will attempt follow up bids for either Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe or Brentford forward Scott Hogan, after having £6m and £10m bids rejected respectively for the pair.
