West Ham have enquired about Southampton’s Jose Fonte and Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho, and are interested in Everton centre back Phil Jagielka, according to Simon Jones in the Daily Mail.
Fonte has requested to leave Southampton after rejecting a contract extension to stay at the club beyond his current deal that expires in 2018. Sakho meanwhile has not played a single minute of first team action for Liverpool this season after falling out with manager Jurgen Klopp on a pre-season tour of the United States.
Jagielka is 34 and is the oldest of the three. He has played regularly under Ronald Koeman this season but the Dutchman is seeking a younger defender to replace him. The England international is also said to be interesting Sunderland whose manager David Moyes bought Jagielka for Everton back in 2007.
The Hammers have the seventh worst defence in the Premier League this season and the interest in centre backs demonstrates Slaven Bilic’s desire to shore up the shaky defence.
