Watford have entered the race to sign Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, according to calciomercato.it. The 28 year old has been heavily linked with West Ham, Bologna and Sassuolo in the Italian press.

It is believed that Hornets manager Walter Mazzarri is interested in joining up with Ranocchia once again after the pair worked together when Mazzarri was boss at Inter.

Ranocchia’s wages seem to have put off some clubs with Sassuolo and Palermo unlikely to make moves due to the defender’s high salary. The former Italian international is also not keen to be part of a relegation battle which has meant that a move to Hull City was ruled out.

West Ham and Watford would seem to be in pole position as their wage structures would easily accommodate Ranocchia but the Italian’s reluctance to leave Italy indicates that at this point Bologna are the favourites to land the centre back.
