West Ham right back Sam Byram says he was delighted to return to first team action in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend. The 23 year old had been sidelined for three months with a hamstring injury but came on as a substitute for Angelo Ogbonna at half time.

The former Leeds player said he was delighted by the unity the squad have showed, and that there was a very positive atmosphere around the dressing room after the game on Saturday. He told West Ham’s official website:

“We’ve needed this, it does feel like a real lift. The team were together afterwards and it was a great atmosphere around the place, so hopefully it’s upwards from here.

“There’s been a lot in the news over the last week but we’re a team and we stick together. We showed on Saturday, particularly in the second half, that we can pull together and that we’ve got a great squad.”

West Ham returned to a 3-4-3 formation at the weekend against Palace but manager Slaven Bilic reverted to four at the back after a poor first half display. The move paid off with three second half goals from Sofiane Feghouli, a spectacular overhead kick from Andy Carroll, and a strike from Manuel Lanzini to seal what became a comfortable win for the Hammers.
