A potential mid-season blow for West Ham United has been highlighted by The London Evening Standard, with four players potentially absent from club duty in the new year due to the African Cup of Nations.

The Hammers have lofty ambitions for this season and will look to challenge for a top-four berth in 2016-17 and potential Champions League qualification.

However, Slaven Bilic could be robbed of a number of key players halfway through the campaign, with the African Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Gabon from January 14 to February 5.

Sofiane Feghouli, Cheikhou Kouyate, Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew could all be called up by their respective countries to feature in the international tournament.

Club record signing Ayew is already injured but should be fit by the time the African competition begins, while Kouyate is a critical member of Bilic’s starting XI.

After extensive summer recruitment, having a number of players unavailable will test the club’s strength in depth.
