West Ham co-owner David Gold has confirmed that the club are close to signing an “exciting” young midfielder.

The Hammers have been extremely active in the transfer market this summer, snapping up ten players on the back of a fine 2015/16 campaign that yielded Europa League qualification.

And it’s being widely rumoured that yet more deals will be done before the close of the transfer window next week, with Slaven Bilic having already hinted that Simone Zaza and Wilfried Bony are targets to address his attacking concerns.

And now co-owner Gold has revealed on talkSPORT that a midfielder is also expected at the London Stadium in the coming days:

“We do have another midfielder coming in, we hope, before the window closes,

“I think he is going to be an exciting young player.”

Gold went on to tell fans that they can expect late deals as the deadline approaches:

“If you look back at our experience we do seem to pull a rabbit out of the hat at the last minute and we will try and do that again,”

Gold’s comments regarding the incoming “young” midfielder seem to hint at a move for FC Sion’s Edimilson Fernandes, who is reportedly close to joining West Ham.
