West Ham’s hopes of winning the race to resign Michael Carrick this summer have taken a hit, with The Guardian claiming that Manchester United have offered the veteran a one-year deal to remain at Old Trafford.
The experienced midfielder is out of contract this summer and a scramble for his services was being touted as uncertainty over his future at United ruled the roost.
The Hammers were being linked with making an approach for the pass-master in an attempt to reunite Carrick with his boyhood club.
This would offer Slaven Bilic additional options in the heart of his midfield and provide a cost-effective solution to Alex Song’s loan stint at the club coming to an end.
However, despite a managerial change at Old Trafford, the latest report suggests that United want to keep Carrick for 12 more months and have offered the England international a new deal as such.
